Investigative Analyst

Use SATINT, OSINT, and all-source analysis to identify and verify mass graves and atrocity sites. The analytical core of Khthon's intelligence efforts.

  • Analyze high-resolution satellite imagery to detect soil disturbances, vegetation changes, and burial indicators.
  • Conduct OSINT investigations using social media, local reports, academic sources, and geospatial tools (Google Earth, Sentinel Hub, QGIS).
  • Cross-verify findings with multiple data sources and contribute to detailed reports for internal use, public release, or partners.
  • Collaborate with regional teams to monitor ongoing conflicts and support field verification where safe.
  • Stay current with remote sensing technologies, AI-assisted imagery analysis, and conflict-specific contexts.
  • Background in geography, remote sensing, archaeology, forensic science, international relations, or data analysis.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools, satellite imagery platforms, and OSINT methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and report-writing skills; attention to ethical standards and source verification.
  • Experience in conflict zones or human rights research is a plus.
  • Willingness to work with sensitive material and maintain strict confidentiality.

Preferred: Advanced degree or relevant certifications; language skills for specific regions (e.g., Ukrainian, Arabic, Amharic).

GIS / Geospatial Analyst

Build, maintain, and interrogate geospatial datasets supporting Khthon's site identification, monitoring, and reporting work across conflict theatres.

  • Develop and maintain GIS databases of confirmed and suspected mass grave sites.
  • Produce maps, overlays, and spatial analyses to support field teams and published reports.
  • Integrate satellite imagery, elevation data, and open-source datasets into analytical workflows.
  • Apply remote sensing techniques to detect land-use change, soil disturbance, and access routes.
  • Build and maintain standardised geodata pipelines for reproducible analysis.
  • Proficiency in QGIS, ArcGIS, or equivalent; working knowledge of remote sensing platforms (Sentinel Hub, Google Earth Engine).
  • Experience with spatial data formats (GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoTIFF) and coordinate systems.
  • Ability to produce clear cartographic outputs for non-specialist audiences.
  • Background in geography, geomatics, earth sciences, or related field.
  • Familiarity with Python or R for spatial analysis is strongly preferred.

Preferred: Experience with conflict-zone mapping, humanitarian GIS, or forensic geospatial analysis.

Regional Project Manager

Lead and coordinate operations in an assigned geographic region — Ukraine, Middle East, Africa, and others. Set priorities, manage workflows, and liaise with local partners.

  • Oversee regional research teams, set priorities, and manage workflows for site identification and monitoring.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts between analysts, security, and external partners.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for regional initiatives.
  • Liaise with local informants, NGOs, and stakeholders while ensuring operational security.
  • Monitor regional conflicts and produce situation reports or briefings for leadership.
  • Support expansion into new areas or scaling of existing projects.
  • 2–5+ years project management experience in humanitarian, intelligence, or research settings.
  • Deep knowledge of the assigned region's geopolitics, conflicts, and languages.
  • Experience with remote teams and tools like Slack, Asana, or similar.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in high-stakes environments.

Preferred: PMP or equivalent certification; prior fieldwork or NGO experience.

PR & Communications Specialist

Shape Khthon's public narrative, raise awareness of findings, and build relationships with media and international stakeholders.

  • Develop and execute PR strategies to amplify reports on mass graves and war crimes.
  • Draft press releases, op-eds, and talking points; pitch stories to journalists.
  • Manage crisis communications and respond to media inquiries.
  • Build partnerships with other NGOs, governments, and international bodies.
  • Track media coverage and measure impact of communications efforts.
  • Experience in PR, journalism, or communications for nonprofits.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with sensitivity to traumatic topics.
  • Media network or proven pitching success.
  • Understanding of international human rights frameworks.

Social Media Manager

Grow Khthon's online presence to educate audiences, drive engagement, and support fundraising — including video production and paid ad management.

  • Create and schedule compelling posts (text, images, infographics) highlighting mission work.
  • Produce or oversee short videos, animations, and explainers on satellite analysis and findings.
  • Manage paid ad campaigns (Meta, Google, LinkedIn) for awareness and recruitment.
  • Engage with followers, monitor trends, and respond to comments appropriately.
  • Analyse performance metrics and optimise content strategy.
  • Ensure all content respects ethical guidelines and source protection.
  • Proven experience managing social channels for causes or nonprofits.
  • Skills in video editing (Premiere, CapCut), graphic design (Canva, Adobe Suite), and ad platforms.
  • Creative mindset with understanding of sensitive content.
  • Knowledge of OSINT/SATINT visuals for storytelling.

Security Specialist / OPSEC

Protect Khthon's personnel, data, and sources in a high-risk intelligence and humanitarian environment. Develop and enforce operational security protocols.

  • Develop and enforce OPSEC protocols, digital security policies, and risk assessments.
  • Train staff on secure communications, VPN use, and threat awareness.
  • Monitor for potential compromises or targeting by adversaries.
  • Advise on safe fieldwork and data handling for sensitive imagery and reports.
  • Conduct security audits and incident response.
  • Background in intelligence, cybersecurity, or humanitarian security.
  • Knowledge of Signal, Tor, encrypted storage, and geospatial data protection.
  • Understanding of threats in conflict zones — surveillance, hacking, physical risks.
  • Certifications (e.g., CISSP, security management) a plus.

AI / ML Trainer

Train, evaluate, and refine machine learning models to support automated detection of burial sites and land-use change in satellite imagery. GIS background strongly preferred.

  • Prepare and annotate geospatial training datasets for image classification and object detection tasks.
  • Train and evaluate ML models (CNNs, semantic segmentation) on satellite and aerial imagery.
  • Collaborate with investigative analysts to identify signature patterns for automated detection.
  • Test model performance against ground-truth verified sites and iterate based on results.
  • Document model architectures, training pipelines, and evaluation metrics.
  • Background in machine learning, computer vision, or data science.
  • Experience with Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar).
  • Familiarity with geospatial data formats and raster processing (rasterio, GDAL).
  • GIS background or working knowledge of remote sensing strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work responsibly with sensitive imagery under strict source protection protocols.

Preferred: Experience with satellite imagery ML datasets (xView, SpaceNet, or similar); familiarity with QGIS or Google Earth Engine.

HR & Talent Manager

Build and support Khthon's global, volunteer-heavy team — from recruitment and onboarding through wellbeing, training, and policy development.

  • Handle recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding for analysts, managers, and specialists.
  • Manage volunteer coordination, performance feedback, and team engagement.
  • Develop policies for diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, and remote work.
  • Support training programs on tools, ethics, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws across jurisdictions.
  • HR experience, preferably in nonprofits or international organisations.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Familiarity with global hiring and volunteer management platforms.

Funding, Lobbying & Partnerships

Secure sustainable funding and advocate for Khthon's mission through grants, donations, lobbying, and strategic alliances with tech, academia, and international bodies.

  • Research and write grant proposals for foundations, governments, and institutions.
  • Manage crowdfunding, corporate sponsorships, and matched giving campaigns.
  • Run targeted fundraising ads and email campaigns.
  • Lobby policymakers and international organisations on satellite data access and war crimes accountability.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with tech companies, academia, and NGOs.
  • Track funding pipelines and report on impact to donors.
  • Proven grant-writing or fundraising success.
  • Experience in advocacy or lobbying for human rights.
  • Strong proposal writing, data visualisation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian funding landscapes.

Finance & Operations Manager

Oversee the financial health, budgeting, and compliance of a nonprofit with international reach and multi-jurisdiction obligations.

  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Handle bookkeeping, expense tracking, and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, donor restrictions, and international tax rules.
  • Support payroll and reimbursement processes for paid staff.
  • Analyse costs for satellite data, tools, and operations.
  • Prepare reports for leadership and funders.
  • Accounting or finance background with nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, Xero, or Google Sheets.
  • Attention to detail and integrity in handling funds.
  • Knowledge of grant financial management.
