Beit Hanoun, at the northeastern edge of Gaza, was among the first areas to be heavily struck during the outbreak of the 2023 war. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble. Mass graves were dug by locals in courtyards and streets, often under fire. The number of fatalities is contested, but local and international observers estimate figures reaching into the hundreds across the town.
